Why attend the Monday event?
The event this Monday (March 10, 2-4 pm at AltCity) is a special opportunity for NGOs, schools and universities, companies, and individuals to learn how to become more interconnected with the world of volunteering beyond our borders. The International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) is one of the international programs you will learn about on Monday. I will be joined by two colleagues who will also be speaking on Monday. All three of us attended the Second IAVE Regional Volunteer Conference that was held in Oman this past November. Karina Nakkash, the current IAVE National Representative for Lebanon, gave a presentation there on the Makassed Youth Volunteer Program which she directs, and Safaa El-Makkaoui, a former IAVE National Representative for Lebanon, gave a number of training sessions at the conference. As the Regional Representative of IAVE, I coordinated the conference, and also gave two presentations myself. Throughout the three days of the conference, we attended workshops and presentations, went on site visits, shared in discussions, and networked with other regional and world leaders of volunteering.
Other international programs you will learn more about on Monday include Global Youth Service Days and Little Free Libraries. And you will also learn about training opportunities that you can benefit from to develop or improve your own volunteer programs.
Finally, we would like to share some ideas with those present and invite their responses about how we can work together in Lebanon to promote, facilitate, and improve volunteering throughout the country.
